Quickie

July 29, 2008 - 7:46 pm No Comments

Long story short, I moved back into my parents’ house (ask me how that thrills me) for a year (ONE year. ONE. Then I’m OUT), and I have a variety of things I need to do, like unpacking and upgrading to WP 2.6. I’ll be back in blogland shortly. :)

Productivity

July 4, 2008 - 10:24 pm No Comments

I’ve been pretty productive lately, although probably not in the ways I need to be productive. I should have been studying for the praxis and packing for my move home, but neither of those activities is particularly desirable. Instead, I’ve been making dining reservations for our Disney trip (Scott and I are going with my parents in December for four days!), knitting, and joining things.

The first evidence of my productivity is that I finished something, sort of. I mean, I did finish something, but what I finished is a sock. One sock. Singular. Half of a pair. So the sock itself is finished, the pair is not. This particular sock is a Spring Cable Sock, designed by my buddy Elinor. Yarn is Dream In Color Smooshy in Blue Lagoon. Dude, this sock feels so awesome on my foot. That having been said – no, I have not cast on the second sock yet. No, I do not care. I’ll have these done before Rhinebeck, probably, because I want to wear them there, but I need a break from blue and cables before I dive into the next one. Anyway, your photo:

Next up on the list hasn’t been quite finished yet, but it’s pretty close considering I started it late last night. My friend Katie and I are doing a knitalong of two. :) We’ve been buddies since high school, and (of course), right before she moved cross-country in February, I taught her how to knit. She fell for it hard and fast, and since we can’t knit together in person, we figured we could at least knit the same pattern and chat on Skype. We decided on Fuzzy Feet for the first go-round, and I’m using some Noro Kureyon (color #88) that’s been marinating in my stash as a half-knit armwarmer since 2004. Seriously.

As far as the joining goes, I’ve signed up for Plurk (I am, as always, wingedorange there) and both incarnations of Tour de Fleece 2008 (links in the sidebar). For the Tours, I’m going to be spinning eight ounces of Cormo that Lizz gave me for my birthday. It doesn’t sound like much, especially considering that I’m aiming for a light worsted weight in a 2-ply, but I have stuff going on every weekend in July (graduation party, birthday party, bridal shower, praxis/wedding, moving), so if I manage to finish it, I’ll be amazed.

I did do something productive that’s not knitting-related: I set up a meeting for this Wednesday with the department head of a local university that offers a school psychology MA/Ed.S. It’s not my first choice for a school, but it’s nearby, has the program I need, and offers full assistantships on both a full and part-time basis. Also, the department head said he’d have to look over my transcripts to be sure, but I may be able to just take some classes in the spring semester and start my practicum/certification stuff in the fall. So cross your fingers that goes well.

I have to go back to work on Monday, after two glorious weeks off, and then it’s back to teaching for six weeks. I know I get at least two weeks off at the end of August (maybe three, depending on when the summer program ends). Six weeks isn’t that long, I can make it. :D
