Playing catch-up
This is not a particularly exciting post, because it contains no pictures. I am blogging to you live from Belpre, Ohio, though; I flew out yesterday with my dad to visit some family. Over the past few weeks, I have:
- Worked, worked, worked
- Finished up the last two weeks of school
- Went to the ER with two nasty ear infections
- Had my ears flushed at the ENT specialist
- Stained my spinning wheel
- Registered for my Praxis test
- Started my two weeks off before the summer program starts
- Flew to Ohio.
As far as the ear infections go, it’s better now. I couldn’t ear out of either ear for a while and it was painful and scary, but they fixed me up and I’m on a bunch of meds and drops and antibiotics. They’re pretty sure I’ll live. ;)
I put a coat of stain on my wheel before I left; she’s drying at my mom’s house now and I’ll finish her up on Thursday when I get home. I didn’t bother taking her apart before I stained her, so we’ll see if that comes back to bite me in the ass. The stain looks gorgeous, though.
I’m taking the Praxis test in July, because obviously my life is not complete without a standardized test in it. I missed out on a $52,000 a year job a few weeks ago because I needed a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) to teach special ed, and you need a regular K-5 elementary CE before you can get the special ed CE. And you need to pass the Praxis before they’ll give you any CE at all, even if you have an MA, which Scott thinks is BS. ;) But the point is, I’m going to take it in July, and that way if they hire last-minute at the end of the summer I’ll be in good shape, and even if they don’t, I’ll be in a position to get a better job for next year. Even if I’m back in school, I would probably do night classes and work during the day, and I need to make more money so I can, you know, LIVE. So here’s hoping that goes well.
And now I’m here in southeastern Ohio, kicking back for a week, knitting, reading, and studying for my test. I’ll be back in Jersey on Thursday, and then on Friday, Scott and I are off to see Wall-E. So excited!
